Yeah by Usher is not a Minor 7th

Post by llamalover326 »

Hi all,

My theory class sat at the piano for about the whole class period trying to figure out if the website was wrong or if our brains were just not hearing the Minor 7th. If it is the synthesized part at the beginning, we figured this out...

That part is as follows: G, D, G, D#
G, D#, G, D (and repeat many more times)

There is not a minor 7th in there! G to D is a Perfect 5th and G to D# is a Minor 6th.

And then, to make everything even better, my instructor was saying "Perfect 5th, Minor 6th, Minor 6th, Perfect 5th" to the tune and now for the rest of my life, whenever I hear this song, it will forever be sang as such. :--D

Please tell me if I am just crazy! Lol!

Yes, you're absolutely right, it's a perfect 5th. We'll move it to the right column and double-check the rest. Sorry about that :)

Hi - I noticed that this song is still in the wrong place on the list :-) It should go in the ascending m6 category.

I've also noticed that the song has not been moved, which has led me to believe that there is a m7 SOMEWHERE in the song. But, alas, after listening to the song countless times today, I found no m7.

If I were to make a suggestion: the song may be placed in the ascending Perfect 5 AND Minor 6 categories, with the first two notes listed as the Perfect 5 and the third and fourth notes as a Minor 6.

Thanks again for your reply.

It has now been moved to Ascending P5 (the 4 first notes are P5 then m6).
