Hi Everyone,
I've been stuck for about a week on major 2nd and minor 3rd harmonic interval comparison. I can nail them ascending and descending, but I cannot, for the the life of me, discern the difference between the two when played harmonically.
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
I've tried custom exercises, and I can nail them when played with a common FIRST TONE, but I get killed once the common tone starts alternating.
Is there any way to set the common tone to the last note on custom exercises?
Again, all advice is greatly appreciated. I've been practicing faithfully twice-a-day, everyday for about 45 minutes total since I bought the program two weeks ago.
That being said, I've been stuck for the last week-and-a-half on this exercise.
Thanks in advance and best wishes.

Strange. They are very different. The major second sounds dissonant - not so pleasing for the ear. You can notice how the two tones of the major second are clashing each other because they are too close. While the minor third is a consonant sound - pleasing for the ear.
Are you correcting your errors when you make them or you just move to the next example? - I'm asking this because this is the main reason why people are not making progress. It's very important when you make an error to spend some time correcting it by listening to the wrong answer and listening the right one - comparing them. I spend for about 30 seconds to one minute for every mistake.

Thanks KostaC. I generally listen to the difference, but I definitely don't spend 30 seconds to a minute. I'll definitely take your advice and really start digging into each wrong answer.
That being said, I am singing every note, and I can notice a difference while listening to music. My ear has improved since the two or three weeks since I bought the program.
Thanks again for the reply.

Re: STUCK on Major 2nd/ Minor 3rd Harmonic Interval Comparis
I see the last post was three months ago and nobody interested since then. Did the writer overcome the block? I would like to know because I am stuck on minor and major seconds. Does practice eliminate this problem?

Hi Brian,
There are a lot of tips on the forum to help you when you get stuck with specific intervals. Some of them are: Link intervals with the start of a song (check http://www.earmaster.com/products/free- ... rator.html), f.ex. m2 = Main theme from the movie Jaws or the Pink Panther, M2 = 'Happy Birthday' or 'Silent Night' (Christmas song) etc.
It can also be useful to practice with your instrument next to you in order to double check your answers in case you are completely lost.
