Distortion through my speakers

I'm getting a lot of distortion through my speakers when I play my answers. I'm using a guitar plugged straight into my sound card. If I reduce the volume on the guitar, earmaster does not pick up the tone. Any ideas for a good set-up?

did you try to reduce it in the computer instead of your guitar?
