Question about lesson instructions

Hello,

I'm currently using EM Pro 5. In lesson 20 of Interval Identification, the instructions say:

"EarMaster will play all diatonic intervals from unison to octave. The intervals will be played from any step in the C major scale. It's a good idea to use the solfege syllables to sing the intervals. This is useful for the sense of steps in the key."

I don't completely understand what is being recommended for this exercise in terms of the solfege syllables. For example, one of the question intervals played by EarMaster is A-B. Of course, this is a Major 2nd. Am I supposed to sing "Do Re" or "La Ti"?

It seems more natural to sing "Do Re" since there is nothing played to initially establish any sense of C as the tonic. The first note played is A, which makes A sound like the tonic. At least that is my feeling as I work with this exercise. Please let me know what the creators of EarMaster actually intend with the instructions that I've quoted above. Specifically, do you want me to sing "Do Re" or "La Ti"?

As you mention, since the key is not established before the question, it makes good sense to use the first note of the first interval as Do, and then sing the root of the B interval depending on its relation to Do (i.e. the root of A).
