EM6, Melodic sight-singing: new tones rarely used

Post by Manul »

While starting with melodic sight-singing in EM6 yesterday, I noticed that the new tones introduced in each lesson are played rather seldom.

To give an example, lesson 3 of module 1 introduces 'Fa'. On my first time taking this lesson, 'Fa' was not used in any of the 8 generated melodies. Thus, I got a very high score and Earmaster deemed me ready to move on - which, of course, I wasn't, since I hadn't familiarised myself with the 'Fa' at all.

So, as a suggestion to the developers, would it be possible to tune the random melody generation to make sure the new tones are involved more often?

Hi

This makes sense. The questions are generated randomly, so perhaps you were just unlucky getting very few with Fa. Is it better if you retake the lesson? You are probably right that there should be a few more questions with Fa. We will look into this.

Thanks for your feedback, Niclas! I have retaken the lesson a couple of times now. While I don't have an actual statistic, my feeling is that on average less than half the exercises contain Fa. This makes targeted practicing of new stuff a bit hard - if I want to practice Do, Re, Mi, I can always go back to the previous lesson, so IMHO it would make sense to tune the random algorithm a bit.
