Using mic for singing intervals

Ok, I have downloaded the trial version. I am tying to use the mic for singing intervals. However no matter how long I hold a note, no matter how loud, I got so frustrated I started screaming. The software does not recognize anyhting. however on the bottom right side next to the icon of the mic there is a little green bar that will go up and down. So, what the heck? I have read the entire PDF twice and can't find a thing on how to get this to work.

Use the "Microphone tuning wizard" from the "Tools" menu. This will lead you through several steps to configure you microphone for input.
