Interval identification - lesson 20vs23vs26

Post by Yang »

Hello,
I am studying interval identification and I am becoming quite good at it. I think I got around 90-100% on ascending and descending at any interval/key.

But what my trouble is : I can't really make a difference between lesson 20, 23, and 26, they are all the same to me. They all requires the ability to find the interval, it is just a different key.

I suppose the major point is to be able to tell what was the starting note, how can I train on that ? Like I can tell for instance that I hear a 3rd major interval but I can't tell that the first note was the fifth in the key, how can I become better at that ? Any memo tips ?

Hi,
You could train that with the first lessons of the Melodic Dictation exercise (using Solfege syllables) for instance.

Hello, I have got an idea, when I hear the cadence (the chords) at the begining, I could remember the fundamental in my head and then when I hear the second note, I can hear the interval and find which note it is, is it a good idea to start ?

Yes, this is pure relative pitch training. It's a very good idea.
You can also set up the program in Customized mode so as to have only the root chord or the keynotes played instead of a cadence.
